In November of 1902, The Children's Home Society of Florida was founded b Reverend D.W. Comstock in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a statewide organization that is working to end child abuse. In the beginning, the organization started with a small amount of people working for them, and just a few dozen kids. Not to mention that, but they only had an operating budget of fewer than one thousand dollars. Since their beginning, the Children's Home Society has now grown to include over one hundred thousand kids and over 1,800 staff, where they are located in dozens of offices throughout the state of Florida.
Chief Executive Officer Michael J. Shaver has led the organization to success, and he has helped to implement programs to help guide the youth in the program for bright futures. One of these programs that they have is called Project 18 Mentoring. This program offers young people ages twelve to eighteen the chance to be paired with adult mentors within the surrounding community. Their goal is to provide a positive role model that will take an active position in the child's life. This allows children an opportunity to befriend someone outside of the organization, and it gives them a positive outlet where they can share anything happening in their daily lives.
The Children's Home Society has received numerous awards both locally and nationally for their positive accomplishments they have achieved over the course of their existence. Some of these include the Adoption Excellence Award and Congressional Angel by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Paul Vernon Cryptsy has connections with local business leaders to offer their time in fundraising efforts to help the Society and the children involved.
